Cast Your Vote! Two SOM + Artist Projects Named CODAaward Fi
Two collaborative works between SOM and artists have made the CODAawards Top 100, which celebrates design projects that demonstrate the most successful integration of commissioned art into an interior or architectural space. The public is now invited to cast votes for their favorites on the CODAawards website.?
“Bells and Whistles,” by Rita McBride, is a pentagonal brass profile at The New School's University Center in Manhattan. Spanning six floors and more than 530 feet long, SOM worked with the artist throughout the design and construction process to realize the work, which punctuates the visual experience for building visitors.
The U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, China, features a collection of works by leading American and Chinese artists. For the permanent outdoor sculpture "Now," artist Joel Shapiro collaborated with SOM on questions of scale, positioning, and lighting. Inside the Consulate, artist Jennifer Steinkamp’s massive video projection, “Orbit,” explores ideas of space and motion. In the lobby, pictorial lightboxes by Doug Aitken embody the complex relationship between architecture and art.
The CODAawards program offers 10 categories, with a jury picking one winner from each category. Additionally, two overall winners will be selected?through the online public voting process, which ends?June 30, 2014.?To cast votes, go here and click the Facebook "Like to Vote" button above each project.
